The First Alabama Trust and Savings was a small branch office on Gulf Shores Parkway in Gulf Shores, Alabama. It was one of twenty-eight locations in the state. The bank was also one that Jack needed information on concerning the missing money he was hired to find. The First Alabama Trust and Savings was where some of Diego’s money had been sent when it had been transferred from the 4FOR1 account at Lorraine’s bank. It was just after noon when Jack walked through the double glass doors. Once inside, he looked around for anything that would tell him who managed the bank. On the far wall, Jack saw a row of photos with the bank branch employees’ names and titles below each one. He casually strolled toward the wall and quickly found the bank manager’s name and photo.

“Freddy Jackson. Sounds like a pedophile,” Jack said under his breath and turned around to look for Freddy.

Behind the counter, standing next to one of the tellers, the hired gunman found Freddy counting a stack of money.

“Can I help you?” the bank manager asked when he saw Jack standing there.

Jack gave the man a friendly smile and waved. “I was just looking for an ATM.”

Freddy nodded and pointed to his right. “We only have a drive-up on the side of the building.”

“Thank you,” Jack said before turning and walking out.

The killer returned to his car and started the engine. He sat there for a few minutes, looking through his phone for a place to get something to eat. Jack had a few hours to kill before having to be at the bank around closing time. He left the parking lot and started for the seafood restaurant he had found with good reviews and four and a half stars.

As Jack got closer to the restaurant on the beach, he thought about what he would do and where he would go once the job was complete. He believed the things he had done in San Diego were clean, and nothing could be traced back to him. Still, Jack felt he needed to lie low afterward, for a little while anyway. Maybe I’ll go to Brazil, he thought. He then considered Lorraine and how she could fit into his plans if he brought her along. At first thought, Lorraine wasn’t the type of woman Jack usually liked to be with, nor had she been a part of his plan for afterward. However, Jack had grown comfortable with being around Lorraine and often found himself missing her every day he’d been away.

The drive to the seafood restaurant took about forty-five minutes. However, it didn’t seem that long to Jack, who still hadn’t decided what to do about Lorraine by the time he found a parking spot. After getting out and locking the car, Jack made his way inside. The place wasn’t too big, and the lunchtime rush had come and gone at nearly one thirty.

“Sit anywhere you can find a clean table, honey. I’ll be right over,” a woman behind the counter said.
